How to Write a Press Release
The word press release seems to scare most
people to death. Understanding the simple structure of a press
release can help dispel the mystery surrounding this simple form of
marketing.
What is a press release? A news release, press
release or press statement is written communication sent to editors
or journalists for the purpose of announcing something that is news
worthy. Press releases are mailed, faxed, or e-mailed to assignment
editors at newspapers, magazines, radio stations, television
stations, and/or television networks.
The most important element to remember is that a
press release is a “news” item. Become familiar with the newspaper,
magazine, radio station before submitting your press release.
Determine the department and editor to submit your release.Ask
yourself, "How are readers of the publication I am considering
going to relate to the announcement and will they be able to
connect?" If the connection is not apparent, consider another media
source.
