One SOUND, one VOICE

Just a few thoughts today...
Do you have to be a Profe from Mexico? Or do you just have to know traditional dances? I want to know your opinion?

In your state and/or city do you feel Folklorico dancers are divided or united?

I am not a Profe but I learned to dance since I was 5 untill 20 years old and now I am teaching folkloric dance in my little town in the elementary school, be a Profe will be nice to have better teacher. I feel in my city we don't have the support to let every body know about our traditions.

Thanks for the reply Karina. I also started Folklorico at a early age, and have been around it my whole life. Currently I am helping my mother teach at her school. I have so much fun that I want to start my own group.I feel the same way here, but I am glad there is a website like this to continue our traditions!

I try to mix the states that way they are not going to be stress and bore with the same rutine, is not the same like in Mexico, I don't know how explain it. And also I have students with special needs and ADHD, we cann't afford the costumes and shoes, but we had flowers for the girls, bandanas, hats for the boys, just little stuff but they love it. I am very proud of what they can do.

I also agree that what it truly takes is the passion and charisma you put into your teaching. I think it's important to be informed, to research and choose your material carefully as well. I believe if one can balance these ingredients, they can create a wonderful experience as well as further our efforts to keep traditions alive.

I know that sometimes there is negative competiveness between groups, and it saddens me deeply . I think that it is important to work harmoniously together and respect each other's visions. Some of my favorite moments in the last 27 years have been the exposure and opportunity to work with other dancers and musicians.
