One SOUND, one VOICE

I thought it would be a good idea to post the little tricks that we have learned along the way that will help others do a better job of performing. Here's one I learned years ago:

Apply anti-perspirant to your face before applying make up...will stop your make up from melting and flowing down your face.

Wow! I never thought about using this. I'm suggesting it to my dancers.

For those of you that have little ones with no hips. Use suspenders to hold up those heavy skirts, you can not tell they are wearing them under their Jalisco blouse.

I guess I should have made myself clearer on the anti-perspirant. We use it on our foreheads only and I caution all parents to test a small area first. It works great for performances and is washed off immediately after. Living in Arizona where it is really hot this seems to do the trick. As for theatrical makeup I have kids that are having problems with acne at this age and that makeup is too heavy and causes outbreaks.

Come on there must be other ideas or tricks out there to make costume changes, make-up etc. easier.

you can also try milk of magnesia on your face before your foundation as this also helps with the sweating. I learned this during my pageant days where we had to have perfect makeup under the bright stage lights.

Really? Do you just put a thin layer on you face before you apply the make up? I also heard spraying your face with hairspray after you put on the make up helps keep it from running. I sweat a lot, and I use waterproof eye liner/mascara, but my make up still melts. One time I was dancing on a hot July afternoon and my fake eyelashes even came off! If you have any other tips, I would love to hear about them! Thanks.

Yup, i just dip a cotton ball and then apply a thin layer before my foundation. Once im done with my makeup i do a light sweep of babypowder all over my face. As far as the eyelashes.. I would use DUO brand glue, it is the best out there. Hope this helps!!

HI, I have a suggestion. If the floor is slippery spray hairspray at the bottom of your folklorico shoes. Let it dry before you get on stage. You won't slip. It works.

This is what I do for my daughter. Before I apply her eye shadow I use concealer to outline and then apply the shadow. Prevents it from running or "vanishing". Its always vibrant.

We also use glitter to make them pop out more, just dab lip balm on their eyes and use a brush to apply the glitter and it sticks.
See photo. She had already danced.
